Beyond the beautifully restored chapel which so many visitors are enjoying every day, The National Shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini is a treasure of gathering space and meeting accommodations. This space that surrounds the stairs to the chapel features artwork, statuary and two large screens that currently play the videos we have produced about the life of Mother Cabrini and the Missionary Sisters work in the world today.
The Meditation and Contemplation Garden
The area that is set on the south side of the Shrine and off of St. James St, is accessible from both the main floor narthex and by stairs from the lower gathering space. It features a lovely fountain that is a replica of one that stands in the garden of the convent in Codogno, Mother Cabrini’s home town. There are benches, quite nooks and crannies perfect for breakout groups in the mild weather, or just to sit quietly and enjoy the quite escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
This well lit room with two walls of windows is fully equipped with state-of-the art audio visual equipment, a pull-down projection screen built into the ceiling and internet and computer access. The room easily accommodates 12-15 at the modular conference room table. It can also open up into the Narthex space by moving the folding walls, add chairs and banquet tables to make room for a larger group presentation of up to 35? In this larger configuration your attendees have direct access from your meetin space to the garden for a break and some fresh air.
On the west end of the narthex we have provided for handicap and family needs restroom. This space also features a changing table. On the east end of the narthex you will find ladies and men’s rooms and the water fountains.
In addition to some staff office space which is not accessible to the public, we have created a wonderful meeting space that accommodates up to 80 guests. It is easily accessible off the Narthex by stairs or elevator)There are currently 10 tables that seat 8 each or the tables can be reconfigured to meet the needs of your meeting/ retreat. The restroom facilities are plentiful as well.
We have AV equipment available that includes dvd player, projection equipment and accommodates an outside computer your group would provide. There is also a microphone availability that plugs into this state-of-the-art system and ceiling speakers assure clear and complete communication.
We have a prep kitchen where you can store your food or beverages until you need to set them up in the gathering space or the surrounding vestibule/hall/social area.
As mentioned earlier, there is a doorway that takes visitors to the stairs leading up to the garden area. During the more mild weather, this is ideal for meeting breaks or group breakout sessions.
We welcome groups of all religions and interests however it is important that your planned use of the space is in keeping with our mission.
